June 1 & June 2, 2018 Depart from Home

We got up on this beautiful morning and went for our normal morning walk before we started to prepare for the final leaving process. I had set the goal of leaving by 9:00 am and we pulled out of the driveway at that time! We saw a high temperature of 79 degrees today with no rain.

We traveled north and made our first stop of the day at Claire, Michigan at the Cops and donuts store for our morning snack of Apple Fritter and a Cherry Blossom, they were both great.
We sat in a parking lot for about 40 minutes as Nancy had to call a prospective new member for NOMADS and they agreed to join! After this we traveled to Houghton Lake, Michigan and stopped at Camping World as I needed to renew our roadside insurance and they were offering an in store special of $50.00 off!
We then traveled to Mackinaw city where Nancy wanted to walk the main street area to visit fudge shops, and many other stores. We stayed in the Mackinaw city RV park for the night.
On Saturday morning we got up to a temperature of 44 degrees, then went into Mackinaw City to the Pancake House for the Breakfast Buffet and then hit the road for the day. It was a Beautiful day to cross the Mackinaw Bridge with some wind but clear skies.
After crossing the bridge we turned west on US-2 and traveled to Manistique where we stopped to walk the shoreline of Lake Michigan where we found this lighthouse on the harbor and the entrance into the Manistique River.
While walking the shoreline we found this sign post that showed we were 295 miles from Detroit and 1696 miles from the Seattle area where our sons live.
As we continued to travel west we found this Roadside stop with the Fumee Falls near the road outside of Iron Mountain Michigan.
As you continue west on US-2 we entered Wisconsin. Nancy was surprised by this as she could not find this on our route.
After a few miles the road swings back into Michigan.
Our stop for the night was in Iron River at the city RV park. It is a very nice park right on the walking trail.
As you can see in the picture when we pulled into the park the skies were clear and it was 73 degrees outside. But within 2 hours it was raining and turning much cooler.

  1. Great pics, just like being there again. Love hearing about the eats, especially the apple fritters!
